Free the Antenna!

Help Pass the HOA Legislation

to Eliminate HOA Prohibitions on Amateur Radio Antennas

ARRL is spearheading a nationwide campaign to promote the passage of The Amateur Radio Emergency Preparedness Act (H.R. 1094 and S. 459). This proposed law would grant ham radio operators the same rights to install antennas on their property as enjoyed today by users of TV antennas, wireless internet, and even flagpoles.

In its September 17, 2025 ARRL Member Bulletin announcing the campaign, ARRL wrote: “Federal law — since 1996 — has guaranteed to every American — except Amateur Radio Operators — the right to erect antennas outside or on their residences for the purpose of TV reception, satellite TV and internet access, wireless internet access, and even wireless internet redistribution. But Amateur Radio operators are denied the equal right to erect comparable antennas.”

More Than “Just a Hobby”

Individual freedom is only the beginning of why this is important. As any amateur radio operator knows – and well-informed citizens who are not licensed ham operators also appreciate – when disaster strikes, amateur radio extends its utility well beyond the fun and adventure of the hobby.

As ARRL President Rick Roderick stated, “These restrictions hinder not only the enjoyment of Amateur Radio, but also its vital role in emergency communication during disasters.”

“Free the Antenna” – and the Antenna Tower!

Since we make rooftop antenna towers, we naturally have a business interest in seeing these HOA restrictions lifted. HOA restrictions comprise perhaps the most common obstacle faced by would-be customers for our roof towers.

And that’s a shame, since we believe a well-built rooftop antenna tower should be a mark of distinction in the neighborhood! Indeed, we think it’s time to…

Make Towers Cool Again!

But whether you choose to mount your ham radio antenna on your roof, bracketed to a building, or freestanding in the yard – you are entitled to that right!
